OUR STORY
Island Green was built upon gently rolling terrain accented with an abundance of azaleas and dogwoods. Once known for its 18 hole golf course, perfectly manicured champions greens, superbly conditioned Bermuda fairways, and its namesake island green finishing hole. The golf course was sold, foreclosed and then resold by 2017 for over 1.5 million dollars. The current owner has partnered with corporate builders and is actively building new homes on what was once a pristine golf course.
The estimated completion for the new builds is vague, but won't be before 2024. This has created safety concerns and obstacles for residents, homeowners, and wild life alike. Since the development started there has been an increase of traffic, pollution, loss of wild life and flooding.
Island Green residents banned together to try to stop the construction. From protests, petitions, news casts and articles, even attending city issued meetings to get our voices heard. Even though this development isn't to code, the Island Green estate was grandfathered into a property clause giving them permission to overdevelop.
As the construction continues, our community suffer from over usage. The current owner will not rebuild or maintain the extended parts of the property until AFTER the developments are completed. The owner believes the homeowners should pay to manage and repair, but all residents believe that responsibility is with the owner of the new developments.
What was once the Island Green General Council was originally formed to fund and manage our security. Over the years, the General Council has absorbed other responsibilities like public lighting, drainage problems, manage road repair complaints, fairway maintenance, front entrance maintenance and communication. Thus adopting the new title of Island Green Community Services Association to reestablish our community and its needs.
Island Green Community Services Association has a simple goal:
To create a platform that makes it easy for people to connect with others who share their interests and passions. To provide homeowners and residents a place for current and truthful information about our community.
